Election Day in Berkeley this year saw the impacts of the more than $1 million poured into the city’s most contentious measures — although the final votes yielded mixed results for the election’s biggest spenders.

As of Wednesday evening, District 8 City Council candidate Lori Droste led opponent George Beier by a 0.38-point lead, or 16 votes, according to updated ranked-choice voting results from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

As of Tuesday morning, updated ranked-choice voting results show that Lori Droste leads by 0.1 percentage points in the race for the District 8 City Council seat, only four votes ahead of runner-up George Beier.

Newcomer Ty Alper and incumbent Josh Daniels have attained two of three Berkeley Unified School District Board of Education positions, leaving two incumbents vying for the final seat.

Sean Barry, who ran for the City Council seat in the student-concentrated District 7, conceded the race Sunday to incumbent Kriss Worthington.

As of Saturday afternoon, updated election results show that incumbent Kriss Worthington and candidate George Beier remain in the lead for City Council seats of District 7 and 8, respectively — although the latter's lead is now just two votes more than that of the runner up Lori Droste.

Incumbent councilmember Kriss Worthington of District 7 and George Beier of District 8 are leading the polls as of Thursday’s updated election results.

As of Wednesday evening, two City Council races were still too close to call pending the inclusion of mail-in ballots. Though incumbent Kriss Worthington and candidate George Beier led in their races for District 7 and 8, respectively, the numbers were too close to decisively call the winners.

In between victory speeches, Yes on D campaigners were already gearing up to begin implementing the nation's first "soda tax” the day after Berkeley voters overwhelmingly passed the measure.
