Recognizing offered opportunities, new cultures for international students

Though life in America for international students may not be perfect, an appreciation for all the country offers through its people, culture and opportunities should never be overlooked. Gratitude does not mean ignorance of the pervasive problems facing international students but emphasizes what has been and can be accomplished for those traveling thousands of miles to America’s lecture halls.

As members of the External Affairs Vice President’s office (EAVP) of the Associated Student of the University of California (ASUC) at UC Berkeley, we stand united in supporting the Southside Zoning Modification Project. We urge the City Council to adopt Item 13 as presented, as it is a critical step toward building a brighter future for UC Berkeley and the Southside community.

I was ignorant about the extent of antisemitism before coming to UC Berkeley. I now solemnly realize that this is an all-too-familiar story for Jewish people everywhere as I find myself begging for my community to be valued as human beings.
