Both the BDT and BMRC serve UC Berkeley as sources for education about emergency training, helping fellow students prepare to take action in the event of a mass emergency on campus.

Nearly every day we are bombarded by the headlines of crises happening around the world. We are often left with very little ability to have an impact on these events — except for one very important takeaway. Disasters around the world can remind us to prepare for the inevitable crisis that will impact our own community.

The fires of protest ignited by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg are something much more militant – and that’s a good thing.

What is it about disaster films that make them so darn entertaining? Is it something that taps into our primal instincts for extreme survival? Is it the many oiled muscle shots of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? 

The issue here, essentially, is that despite their thematic relevance, dystopian and sci-fi novels aren’t all that helpful in regards to guiding individuals through times of disaster.
